MY LATEST ENGINEERINNG LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCES
THIS LAST ACADEMIC YEAR, I HAD THE PLEASURE TO WORK WITH DR. SARAH CALVE IN HER MUSCULOSKELETAL EXTRACELLULAR MATRIX LABORATORY (MEML). IT HAS BEEN A GREAT EXPERIENCE INTO THE WORLD OF REGENERATIVE BIOLOGY, REGENERATIVE MEDICINE, LIFE AS A GRADUATE STUDENT, AND PERSONAL MENTORSHIP. IN THE FALL, I WORKED WITH ANDREW WITTEN AND DR. TAMARA KINZER-URSEM ON THE OPTIMIZATION OF A BIOCHEMICAL REACTION AND DEVELOPED A MANUSCRIPT THAT IS CURRENTLY SUBMITTED FOR REVIEW FOR POTENTIAL PUBLICATION. IN THE SPRING, I TOOK ON THE MENTORSHIP ROLE FOR SAWYER KIEFER, INTRODUCING HIM TO A WET LABORATORY ENVIRONMENT AND PUSHING FORWARD OUR RESEARCH.
THIS SUMMER I HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO CONTINUE MY RESEARCH EXPERIENCE THROUGH THE NSF-REU SUMMER PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY. UNDER THIS PROGRAM FOR ENGINEERED BIOACTIVE INTERFACES AND DEVICES AND THE MENTORSHIP OF DR. ASHLEY SEIFERT, I WILL TRANSLATE THE TOOLSET THAT WE DEVELOPED ON THE DEVELOPMENTAL MUS MUSCULUS MODEL AT PURDUE UNIVERSITY TO THE REGENERATIVE ACOMYS CAHIRINUS MODEL AT THE UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY.
